Finally Got a Thinkpad
For a while I wanted to upgrade ma laptop bcuz of various reasons...
It was getting too slow for ma liking. /ᐠﹷ ‸ ﹷ ᐟ\ノ
And its been like dat since day 1.
It had Windows 11 preinstalled and oof was it slow...
I knew it wasn't the most expensive laptop but they really cut corners with dat one
It was a budget laptop with a Pentium inside™.
Built quality wise was pretty bad,
and the screen... yeah...
It rly wasn't the best laptop but it served me well through the years,
especially with the performance boost dat it had once I installed Linux.
Well... I've got some money on ma birthday and saved it up bcuz Christmas was almost there.
So I took da opportunity to make a switch. ₍ᐢ. ̫.ᐢ₎
While I waited I was thinking about getting a Thinkpad.
But I didn't really knew which model to take.
I had a budget of 250€ - 300€
First I thought about getting a T470 or a T480,
bcuz these were one of the last really upgradable Thinkpads,
and by many the most beloved ones.
But guess what... I did get a other one in the end.
Ive got a Thinkpad X390 Yoga ٩{^ᗜ^ }و ´-
To say I like dat thing is a understatement.
Its way better than I thought!
And it can do a lot more than expected.
It has a stylus with 4000 pressure levels i think...
And it has a touch display, which makes it a great compact drawing tablet laptop thing.
It can also be used like a normal tablet.
and the keyboard is great...
Its one of the best laptop keyboards I've ever used.
And it also is back lit which is nice bcuz I can see what I type at night.
But it wasn't all rainbows and sunshine.
It has 8GB of RAM and its soldered on the board "૮₍ ˶•⤙•˶ ₎ა
Which means I cannot upgrade it in da future.
It also has a Intel Core i5-8265U™ 1.60GHz.
Which is kinda showing its age especially if I run CPU intensive games like Minecraft.
Playing pure Vanilla is a NO for me. Newer Versions are very laggy and the framerate is pretty low.
But if I install a bunch of performance mods it gets pretty playable at 10 chunks of render distance.
PS2 emulation is also meh, depending on the title.
Gran Turismo 4 Spec II mod doesn't work at a playable speed.
But Gran Turismo 3 works flawless if I put it on the lowest graphics.
But tbh I can live with dat and its nice dat my fave Gran Turismo works there.
Programs like Krita, Zen Browser or Visual Studio Code
work flawlessly and I can multitask pretty well with it.
Its a great work device and its been ma main drawing device for a while
It gets the job done pretty well.
And by using Fedora Linux KDE Edition it uses between 2 GB - 2.5 GB of RAM at idle.
Which gives the device a good amount of RAM for other Programs ദ്ദി◝ ⩊ ◜.ᐟ
Stylus, touch and automatic screen rotation worked out of the box.
One of the first things dat I did was to change the old Thermal paste.
It was probably years old by now, and to get the most out of it, it was pretty much needed.
And from what I said I installed a more lightweight operating system.
I installed Fedora Linux KDE Edition. The main reason was bcuz I have been using dat for years,
and it never really failed on me. Also it said dat that Thinkpad was fully supported.
The battery surprisingly got replaced before it got sold apparently {っ-ヮ-c}
Bcuz the battery health is at 100% when I got it, and still is after 1 month of using.
Other silly upgrades dat I did was to put stickers on it of course
and I also put a string on ma Stylus bcuz I lost it for a while and it was sad.
SO NO MORE WIRELESS!!! {⇀‸↼‶}
I also put a white sticker with a dot painted on it to indicate where the button is.
Was necessary because the stylus is very dark and I couldn't see the buttons at all.
And it got annoying when I was drawing.
Dats ma end result pretty much ٩{^ᗜ^ }و ´-
A pretty capable productivity device, dat can handle da day to day tasks.
It will serve me well for da future years and it really was worth for the price of 290€
especially for its build quality and how it gets the job done.
Its now ma main device for my day to day base.
Been doing all my programming and drawing for da website there.
Thx for reading all dat. I hope u liked dat post.
More content will be posted in da future. Maybe will do a post about it again.
We'll see... {ᵕ - ᴗ -}
For now have a gud day!
